VLI TIMBER Wood Processing Plant
Wood, Paper and Furniture

Bendrieji statybų projektai (BSP) acted as the Lead Design Consultant for the PRESS GLASS glass processing plant in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone. Designed for one of Europe’s largest glass processing manufacturers, the facility was developed as a modern, highly automated production plant serving Scandinavian, Baltic and Northern European markets.
The project incorporates glass processing, tempering, lamination and insulating glass unit manufacturing processes, integrating all key technological stages into a single, efficiently organised production system. Design solutions focused on uninterrupted manufacturing operations, optimised internal logistics and a high degree of automation.
The architectural concept is based on clear functional zoning. Along Aviacijos Street, a two-storey administrative building accommodates office, welfare and auxiliary production facilities while also serving as the company’s representative façade. Adjacent to it is the main production hall, whose volume and height were designed to accommodate advanced glass processing technologies and manufacturing equipment. A dedicated warehouse block was integrated on the north-eastern side of the facility, ensuring efficient management of raw material and finished product flows.
The facility includes production, storage, technical and administrative areas, ensuring efficient organisation of raw materials, manufacturing operations and finished product logistics. Large-scale production processes and the integration of complex technological lines contributed to the exceptional scale and engineering complexity of the project.
The architectural expression follows a unified and restrained aesthetic, emphasising the technological character of the facility. Dark grey façade solutions are used throughout both the production and administrative buildings, creating a consistent visual identity. Aluminium composite panels were selected for the administrative volume, while the interior design continues a coherent colour palette combining dark grey, light grey and white finishes.
Particular attention was paid to energy efficiency and engineering system optimisation. A hybrid heating solution combining heat pumps and a condensing gas boiler plant was designed to adapt efficiently to seasonal operating conditions. Mechanical heat recovery
